15 October – You walked away laughing

You can sometimes tell when a songwriter is struggling for inspiration. The usual schtick is to write about falling in love or falling out of love. When you’re stuck for ideas you resort to songs about the planet, or songs about famous people. Now I’m not saying that writer Philip Kruse was stuck, but he went for the famous person.

He picked a Dutch temptress from the 1910s for his theme, and got today’s birthday girl Anne-Karine Strøm to sing it. Her frock was the complete opposite of what Mata Hari may have worn – I can’t imagine a gold lamé trouser suit being all the rage a century ago. Needless to say, Anne-Karine gave a memorable performance.

Anne-Karine is 66 today.

Gratulerer med dagen, Anne-Karine!
