Lisbon confirmed for 2018 Eurovision

MEO Arena Lisbon

In news that will surprise nobody, Portuguese broadcaster RTP has announced that Lisbon should host the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.

Although the Eurovision Reference Group must still rubber stamp plans, it is a signal to other cities not to waste money bidding for the event.

Early speculation suggests the 20,000 capacity MEO Arena as the likely venue. It is empty in May 2018 and has been used for major international events in the past.

The dates for the 63rd contest are expected to be announced at the next Reference Group meeting that takes place in early June.

How long until the campaign to have Nelly Furtado host the show starts?

UPDATE: Shortly after we published this announcement from RTP, they backtracked and said they would consider other cities for the hosting gig. Yeah right, because that’s going to happen.
