Albania – something missing

Phil: No matter how much I like this song – I suspect it’s missing that certain something. Some would call it experience, some would call it talent – personally I would call it “Albanian” to be honest… I don’t think the change into English and lopping a minute and a bit off the song has helped this to be honest and, in my opinion, it would have been better to just write the damn thing in English to start with.

To my ears, though, it is definitely a contender to get through – but Kejsi Tola does have a rabbit in headlights look about her which worries me a little bit, I suspect that being a girl of tender years and winning the biggest thing in your entire country has left her a bit shell shocked – I just hope that when it gets to her time, her moment – she really doesn’t let go of eeeeeet and send the song tumbling..

However, it is at the moment on the edge of the abyss – I just hope she can claw it back!

Franko: Hmm. Well I’d never really given this one much thought before now but it’s a reasonable song. I just think though that there are a lot of uptempo songs sung by women in this part of the draw and someone has to lose out. I very much fear for the Albanians that it will be them. The vocal performance is spot on but she seems paralysed with fear throughout the song. The three boy dancers help the whole thing a great deal and the choreography for them is excellent. The whole effect is lacking a little something though which might tell against her after people have been siting through 15 songs before it. You never know though. I wrote Albania off last year (even liking the song) and they still made it to the final.
