Fly on the wings of a Phoenix

Against all odds I’ve made it to the arena for the first dress rehearsal of the final. It’s hot in here, and I’m on the dryer side of hydrated, if the truth be told. The week, the shows, and the parties are all blurring into one but it’s still great fun. We’ve video blogged for you last night so our thoughts are there, but just to add something here: the reaction from the audience (largely local going by the cheers for Basim in his preview snippet) to Conchita was unlike anything I’ve witnessed at Eurovision except for once: in Stockholm in 2000 when I attended the dress rehearsal and the Olsen Brothers performed. Could that be a sign? All the talk last night was of Vienna (or similar) 2915. Obviously we haven’t yet seen the final run through and how it works but at the moment I’m nailing my colours to the Austrian mast.

One more thing before we start: Molly has drawn last place. I’m not convinced this is great for her, possibly suffering the same too-late fate as Ryan Dolan & Soraya from Spain. Let’s see how it works this afternoon…

Sadly, I don’t think I’ll live that long. And you definitely won’t if this partying continues.

Fat fingers, small iPad 🙂 Although they did look to the Eurovision of the future as the interval act.
