A little bit o’ Bulgaria

Poli Genova

I mostly like what I’m seeing here, but I have reservations. The costume change looks, to me, a bit tired and really adds no value to the performance, I’m not certain that the long, long walk down the catwalk is a good idea either, although it’s the sort of thing that may make more sense when the arena is filled with actual real people – or, in the semi-final, a third full of OGAE members. Oops, did I type that out loud? Final reservation is that the ending seems a bit limp in the edit they’re using. Fortunately, Europe may well be convinced in the first minute and a half before any of the elements which niggle me kick in – she and they have the look of actual music-making musicians and all that.

I like, but I could have liked more.

Phil: Fuckety Fuck Yes, as Roy would say. I have always had the suspicion that this would be a sneaky qualifier and I have seen nothing that would disprove that theory as at 11.50 local time today. It looks fan-bloody-taastic on stage which could mean it looks like a pile of cak on tv though but it has everything. Great backdrop, a singer with a big strong voice and a nice rock beat. I think this could be in with a squeak. As Roy intimated earlier, however, the girls don’t know how to mime the guitars, but i suspect they wont get much face time in a 3 minute TV thing – but I could be wrong ( not having seen the screens and all) but it doesn’t detract that much from what is a good rock-esque song.Be careful of this one – it’ll do alright
