Eirkur Hauksson
Eurovision Song Contest 2007 Ísland (Iceland): Eiríkur Hauksson - Valentine Lost

Nick: Back in 1977, when I was still young, Rick Wakeman made a concept album on the Legend of King Arthur. It was big and pompous and pretentious, and wouldn’t have managed to fit into the three minute rule. Even the guitar solos wouldn’t have fitted into it.

This brings me on to Eirikur Hauksson, who has offered up a song that’s short enough to get through without the assistance of illicit substances. I should think a trip to the kitchen to make a nice cup of tea would do it.

I’m … not feeling the love. Icy reunion concert, please!

Phil: I have an inbuilt hatred of this song – it doesn’t tick any boxes for me and seeing it here confirmed everything I hated when first I heard it. The lyric is the stuff of GCSE English – the tune is rock-lite and a bad example of the genre, at that. It feels so far out of date and if the rules allowed, they should change it immediately for a song with something that has something about it.

Eirkur Hauksson comes across as a one-trick pony, but it’s not the right trick at the right time. It’s staged with a celtic background and I’m sure he is very good at what he does back in Iceland, but this is really poor.
