Lovers of Blackadder will get my reference above. But back to Lithuania who are obviously in 2006 mode and out to enjoy themselves no matter what the outcome. The assembled bunch of the Rupert Bear fan club have decided that they are going to open semi final 2 with something a little different like their predecessors who claimed to be the winners. As you can imagine the performance bears many resemblances to that previous performance. The five stand in a line and “sing” to us. Part way through a sixth brings on some inflatable instruments for them all to play in the round and then disappears once again to the dark recesses of the stage. He’s the equivalent of the large lady who normally gets ignored in Israeli performances. In one of the run-throughs, one of them whipped off his trousers to reveal sparkly hot-pants, but there the resemblance to Kylie ends sadly. The last run through they all do it and we have five Kylie-a-grams.

You have to say that the Lithuanians as a people are different and they also don’t take themselves too seriously which certainly helps in this competition.

This could do literally anything. Get loads of votes like they did in 2006 or completely bomb. I being a Liberal Democrat think it will go somewhere in between. This is a busy semi final with many of the favourites in it so you have to fear for it’s chances. Coming on first and being in yer face they won’t be totally forgotten and I think the Lithuanians would be happy walking away with that kind of pride at least. Not everyone we’ve seen or are going to see will be that fortunate…..

Nick: When I did the whole Lithuania preview thing, I pointed out that I like it but suspect Europe might not get it. Still think that – it’s a marmite of a song. The boys aren’t in as good voice as my other review might have suggested, in fact, some of the trickier notes are getting thoroughly marmalised in this first rehearsal. It might be the sort of song where that doesn’t matter. Swap this with Hera Bjork and it’d be through the 1st semi without any effort at all. Unfortunately, you don’t get to pick your opponents in this contest. 🙁

It’s a fun, playful performance, all the elements work together fairly well, but… I’m thinking “no”.

Phil: The best thing I can say about this song is that the set actually represents the song itself with the LED light patterns in the shape of men moving. The choreography, such as it is, detracts a wee bit from the song itself but it is the kind of thing that has a constituency in this contest. Lyrically, however, it’s a little bit off-message and my only worry is that by the time the other sixteen songs have gone by, it could get lost.

The boys look good on stage and know what to do, but having not seen the camera shots I can’t comment. It sounded OK from the vid that I have seen, however..

Will it qualify…. probably I guess…
