Is that barrel being scraped?

For our second dredging of Europe’s weed-covered canals, we go back to a time where most of Europe – but not seemingly Norway – began its love affair with colour TV. For those of you who think that the beginning of the contest was back in 2000, it may come as a shock to you that Eurovision ever dabbled in black and white – in fact most of us at OnEurope Towers hadn’t even been born!

Odd had tried before in the contest proper, back in 1968 you might remember (or have YouTubed) with his seminal work “Stress”. Undeterred by his 13th place with a massive two votes, back he came in 1971 to have another go and to show Norway he was more than just “ha ha ha” and “Bra Bra Bra”.  Jan Erik clearly just turned up and helped.

This song is a homage to the 1967 detective series of the same name but without wheelchairs. Come to think of it, that might be why this didn’t get through to the contest proper. Hannah Krogh and her umbrella breathed a sigh of relief.
