10 January – We didn’t want neither wars nor pain

This is a birthday that I enjoy posting, as it’s unique in so many ways. I guess lots of songs are unique, but this one is special. So I apologise to any other performers who have birthdays today.

Why is it unique, I hear you cry. It’s because this song from Morocco for starters. Africa’s only proper entry in our favourite TV show. It’s the only song entirely in Arabic. It is probably the only song to receive all of its points from Italy. ergo, in 1980, Italy was one of the few countries with taste. It is, of course, a song from today’s birthday girl سميرة بسعيد/Samira Bensaïd. A portion of fannage love this song, and I have to say I’m inclined to agree with them. I would love to see Morocco back again someday. Wouldn’t you?

Samira is 61 today.
