New Europe, it has to be said, has been a breath of fresh air. Yeah, we got all those Slavic languages, and more besides, but we also got a new element of competition.
Back in the early 1990s when we first flexed our vocal chords, some of us were still finding our feet. Take Poland for example. Runners-up on their début. So in 1995 we were expecting big things. Birthday girl Justyna Steczkowska opened the show in Dublin and had a strangely hypnotic song. An acquired perhaps for some, but I liked it. Even if the juries of Europe weren’t keen.
Justyna is 46 today.
Wszystkiego najlepszego, Justyna!
