23 January – In our house is still your warmth

Russia - Arms

Sun-dried tomato. There, I’ve said it. Who do you think I’m talking about? Well, you could scroll down the article and spoil things, or read through my ramblings on see who it is.

Back in the 1990s, a slew of countries exercised their Eurovision vocal chords for the first time. It actually started in 1993 but most discount that in favour of a year later. Admittedly, the Ljubljana event was a low-key affair. But in 1994, three of these new countries finished in the top nine. The third-highest of these new countries was sung by today’s birthday girl Юди́фь/Youddiph (née Мари́я Льво́вна Кац/Maria Lvovna Katz). Was the way she played with her dress a vote winner or just plain annoying? Or was it genuinely the ninth-best song of the ninth?

Youddiph is 45 today.

С днем рождения, Юди́фь!
