It's sometimes a nice thing when songs come along that everyone likes. It's maybe not their favourite. But no-one loathes it with a passion. That can only be a good thing.

In other news, today's song comes from that pre-Rybak era. Back in the day when we'd be happy with a Norwegian win. Yeah, it would be expensive, but they'd have their moment in the sun and then revert to mid-table obscurity. I like celebrating these people who were a year too early, and today's birthday girl Maria Haukaas Storeng is part of this elite bunch. She managed a fourth in her semi-final and a fifth in the Grand Final in 2008. As a result, NRK roped her in to present Melodi Grand Prix and introduced us to Mr Rybak, and unleashed a monster upon the world.

Maria is 39 today.
