Eurovision birthdays 27/12 – I’ve lost sleep by dreaming too much

I like the way countries of all sizes compete with equality at our favourite TV show. Whether you’re a country of nine time zones like Russia, or a soccer pitch like San Marino, you get the same salvo of votes. But with our smaller countries, there might not quite be the televote to put together a top 10. I understand this happened with our friends in the Principality of Monaco. They had a heyday in the 1960s and 1970s when life was simpler. But this televoting malarkey didn;t quite work as everyone was probably in a casino on a Saturday evening. But they’ve sadly decided it’s not worth participating. Or maybe it’s because they enter quality ballads like that from Niçoise Lise Darly in 2005 that roundly overlooked. Lise is 33 today.

Bonne anniversaire, Lise!
