Tylżycki. I couldn’t let today pass without a nod to – possibly – one of the most famous Eurovisionists of them all, who happened to have been born today. Whilst this person only appeared on the big stage the once, they tried on other occasions, and her country was madder than Mad Jack McMad to not pick her again.
Back in 1975, when the contest was in Sweden (calm down) for the first time, our friends in Germany sent the legendary Joy Fleming – née Erna Raad – with a song that has become a classic down the years. Maybe not that Eurovision disco floorfiller, but one that’s instantly recognisable to any diehard Eurovision fan. Sadly, Joy died in September. She will be missed.
Joy would have been 73 today.
