9 February – You’re like the roses that fill a garden with sweet smells

I know what you’re thinking. Why has that Riigi character picked another song from this country? He’s a fool. Well it’s my column and I can do what I like. Seriously, Mr Phil and some of his cohorts will be heading to the Med’s happiest rock next week for Malta’s riotous cavalcade of quality song. And when Malta’s début entry comes along, it’s the law to play it. And birthday boy Joe Grech’s little ditty is a nicely bouncy upbeat number, to get you through those cold winter nights. After all, who else could carry off a white suit?

Joe is 83 today.
