ESC birthdays 1 Feb – Live life on the edge, it’s apparently a hoot

World's end

When it comes to countries who we’d like to see win (and therefore host) Eurovision, a place high up on people’s lists is Romania. What, you don’t agree? Well they almost found the right formula about 10 years ago, and we were predicting a contest in Bucharest before too long. Sadly it’s not happened yet, but some of us live in hope. Back in the day, they tried lots of languages. Well, English, Romanian and Italian. Until 2007 when things went just a little bit mad. Thankfully they saw sense in 2008 when Nicoleta ‘Nico’ Matei and Vlad Miriță went back to Romanian and, erm, Italian. They did well in their semi-final. but couldn’t quite repeat it in the final. Nico is 46 today.

La mulți ani, Nico!
