ESC birthdays 14/10 – Power to all Oneurope readers

Power Rangers

It’s still Eurovision BC (Before Carola) but this time we’re in the tumultuous 1970s. English, French and Hebrew dominated. Denmark returned – eventually. People seriously experimented with colour and some of it even worked. In that Spring of 1973, the hosts in Luxembourg (remember them?) decided that the orchestra needed to be seen to be believed. So they constructed a mini Camp Nou stadium around the stage. In glorious grey of course, to set off the nice outfits worn by the singers. Someone trying for the second time was the so-called Peter Pan of pop, Harry ‘Cliff Richard’ Webb. Our friends in the UK of stuff thought he was robbed in 1968, so they gave him another go. He was robbed again. Cliff is 75 today.

Happy birthday, Cliff!
