ESC birthdays 22/12 – Female sheep and optic organ

Do you love to laugh? Do you? Do you? Well being a fan of Eurovision means you get plenty of them. I know I’ve had plenty of them in my time. Mostly directed at Carola Häggkvist. And waht makes me chuckle are those songs where the singers know they have no chance of winning, but carry on regardless. They are what make Eurovision. That would have been the case when you were up against Ralph Siegel (remember him) and a 17-year-old student from Saarbrücken. So knowing Germany was going to win, you could have fun with your ladies. Even the one who’s at least one metre taller than you and dressed slightly differently to the rest. The little scamp getting jiggy under the pear tree of a woman was Willem Edsger (Bill) van Dijk. Bill is 68 today.
