The 51st Eurovision Song Contest took place in Athens, Greece.

  • The Dutch are done

    The Dutch are done

Not a hope in hell I am afraid for Dutch Eurovision girl group with drums, Trebel. This one is a bit … well … boring; and it comes right after Lordi.

Yes, it does look good, but the song falls down on the fact that it is badly written and – to my eyes anyway – the performance the girls turned in was half-hearted.

    NEXT!!!

  • Sylvia Night – the one-trick pony that fell at the final fence

Sylvia Night – the one-trick pony that fell at the final fence

Iceland is not going to qualify. The boos for this song were very loud on the stage and it is performed awfully. It is what I feared it always was, a one-trick pony – with a trick that Europe will not get. On This performance, which is hideous, Even if they do get it – they are not going to vote for a performance that is just beyond weird.

In seven days, she has managed to ruin a perfectly good song with an act that is over the top – over-stated and over-hyped.

If she had toned it down a wee bit – it would have been fantastic – but she’s going home without performing it a second time.

  • Bosnia might just stand out

    Bosnia might just stand out

It’s going through, definitely. There is enough difference between this and the others to make the Europeans vote for it (Serbia 2004 part 2) – and it does look good on the telly and in the stage. I still don’t get the song, but I see why it is going through. It’s not going to be Top 1 in the Eurovision, but it’s gonna do business I think.

  • Estonia could make it after all

Estonia could make it after all

This should be dead in the water – Carola * should* have pissed on it’s chips. However, after another lackluster performance by the Carola , this could surprise a lot of people by qualifying and taking her place, alternatively it could be dead in the water and score a very low score.

I’m not sure, but there is one thing, its a Eurolaul Transplant if ever there was one!

  • Hero to zero?

    Hero to zero?

Having sat next to the Head of Radio Stockholm I delayed this one.

It’s not winning anything – it’s qualifying I think but it is still over the top naff crap. Should go through – but there are contra opinions to this – and I can see why they think that Carola is not to the going through – she does tend to put the voters off a little.

Not so sure now, shall reserve judgement.

  • Making up numbers again?

    Making up numbers again?

There is not enough off key singing and bad dancing on this stage. Though I have to say that this sounds better in the hall than in real life. Though that is hardly a ringing endorsement of a bad song, is it???

It’s still not qualifying – but its gonna do OK I feel.

  • Sorry lads, you’re not …

    Sorry lads, you’re not …

The Lithuanians are so not the winners – but are possibly to the qualifying. It is going to get the Moldovan granny vote – but I can’t see where else its going to get points from. It’s repetitive toss ( though where have we said this before) and should not qualify – but it well might.

  • Winner winner winner

    Winner winner winner

*still* The winner of the Eurovision – there is no chance that this is not going to the Final. They have gone into a whole new gear , from sound check to Gig mode. He’s pointing at people and is one of the few performers that, actually, PERFORM. Man this is very good indeed. It’s still got the scary shit factory but it’s bloody good.

  • The spidercam makes it

    The spidercam makes it

Still looks every inch a qualifier to me, but yes, I will concede that this song is made by the SpiderCam shot in part, but the song on its merits is going nowhere BUT to the final. Potential top 10 in the next bit.

  • Polished Turkey

    Polished Turkey

Again – another one going through without much doubt. Even with 4 sexy British Dancers (and one of the group “Pop”) – It looks polished, it sounds fantastic and she ad libs and begs the crowd to help her, which they will and she is going to get the votes out I think. She has tried many variations of this song, but by god, whichever one she does – it’s going through.
