Today at the Games – Day 1 Round up

Oooooh I feel like Claire Balding. In an homage to her, and so you lot can actually work out what worked and didn’t – I’m gonna do a super-quick round up of what’s what.

HOT
5 out of the first 6 songs. Whilst I don’t like Sweden, and I’m disliking Cake to Bake, there is a good run of songs all of which could still qualify.

NOT
Estonia. It seemed totally out of place among those six and is in grave danger of not doing anything, I think its the silly staging to be honest.

HOT
Belgium – I know it pains me to say it as well, but it could do lots of things with his decent voice and the sickly sweet song

NOT
Russia – Oh dear, lambs to the slaughter and laughable choreography. The 40-second eurovision.tv video snippet really gives nothing away including the Van De Graaf generator below the stage.

HOT
The food at the press centre canteen – Meatballs for 89Kr and cake for 35kr

NOT
The walk from the bus to the centre. Not because of the views and stuff, but because its just a tad too long. Lovely rustic views though.

In cheese-related news, OnEurope Towers does indeed have some cheese, though I appreciate you have not seen it and you’re gonna have to take my word for it, but it was lovely this morning 😉

Today’s cake was a thick chocolate number with cream and blueberries (not Lingonberry as previously advertised) – Still just 35KR though – so not bad value.

OnEurope towers itself is a MONSTER of a place, right by the centre of town, it has three wings – your good self at one end, Roy in the middle, Potatoes Mulhall at the other and a fourth guest bedding down on the kitchen floor. It has all the amenities one would expect of a palace. TV lounge room (where I am now), kitchen, bathroom…. WiFi for free. It is, quite literally, the mutt’s nuts – and as for food, well, we have a veritable plethora of outlets from a 7-11 to a posh Italian restaurant and everything in between. We are being well-looked-after and no mistake.

Our trip to work is now by boat. We have travel passes that the city of CPH has given to us for free which covers all trains, buses and the like but, most of all, a boat trip. The same boat you’ve all been reading about. Yes, it really exists and yes it does get you to Eurovision Island.

Now then, tomorrow, we have 11 songs for your delectation and delight, the rest of Semi 1 and the Start of Semi 2. So, finally then, onto the OnEurope Plastic Forks.

Gold Fork for outstanding Effort…. Russia, because it’s the only thing they are going to win!

Silver Fork for Outstanding Props …. Russia again – because bringing your school science project and playground to the Eurovision deserve a mention.

Bronze Fork – Belgium, because he has to eat his Mother with something!!

Performance of the Day….. Tricky one this but I think it would have to go to Azerbaijan. Even though we have all heard the song before, Dilara was professional and knew what to do and didn’t make a hand fisted attempt at it.

And that’s me….. Roy and the others are off to the opening of the Euroclub tonight…. I’m not, but I am happy!

Nick might do a drive by after Only Connect tonight, but can’t promise but if he doesn’t, then bright and early me at 1000 CET.

Thanks for visiting OnEurope today and bis bald!!!

You should do this invision too, would be hilarious. In Sochi, he says, which is in Russia, Clare Balding had a supermarket trolley, which carried the VT crews paraphernalia, it became famous in the press centre and in the OB stints. I think oneurope should learn from the BBC;) perhaps a supermarket carrier bag instead, carrying all those essentials; bread nuteler, a cake baking kit perhaps a scone etc.
