Nick’s Eurovision Countdown 2021 – San Marino

SAN MARINO – Senhit feat. Flo Rida – Adrenalina

Rap! For the FIRST TIME at the Eurovision Song Contest!

Um… listen up! Listen up! It’s me, Jenny B…

Alright, alright, maybe it’s not quite the first time that even San Marino have nibbled at the idea of bringing some rap to the contest in a very… very… small way. But it is the first time, as far as I can remember, that any Actual Rap Royalty has had a go at it. And as always, by Actual Rap Royalty we mean Nick has vaguely heard of Florrie Rida, even if he can’t claim to know any of her songs and wouldn’t be able to pick her out in a line-up.

It makes me suspicious. What’s Actual Rap Royalty doing in my contest?, I mused, and so I did some of that ‘research’ thing I keep hearing about. According to Wikipedia Flo’s last UK hit single was in 2016 when Zillionaire soared to the heights of number 174.

Ah. More like tuppenceaire these days then, and I’d possibly be on the wrong track to call it up-to-date. “In real life of course, this is thirty years old but in Eurovision, it will give your number a contemporary feel” as some wise person once said.

Honestly though, it’s San Marino and it’s part of OnEurope law that I’m not allowed to review a San Marino entry without an unfair dollop of mockery and ridicule, but actually this is absolutely great. It’s one of the few things this year that’s completely stopped me in my tracks on a single hearing in a positive way. There’s just so, so much to like about it.

Absolutely nailed on for top 10 and if they play it right and it catches fire in rehearsals, Eurovision 2022 in Valentina’s backyard is a genuine possibility.

Nick’s Score: 10/10
