Phil’s Eurovision Countdown 2022 – Part 17 – Greece

Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord – Die Together

My what a happy lot the South Eastern Balkans are! – Pleasingly this song isn’t about a suicide pact between Amanda and her lover, but it might as well be.

It’s another song in the “woe is me” mould that seems de rigueur this year, but this flavour of sadness is about, seemingly, living with Covid and its after-effects. Amanda preaches from a rocky outcrop, that if they die together they’ll always have each other.

The Greeks think that she is the second coming – she isn’t. She’s just another girl singing an angsty song about her lover. Where this is different, though, is in the production value of the video (and the stage show will be equally decent). Amanda is also a good singer – she has to be if she is going to sell this crap to anyone other than Mini-Greece and a diaspora that think that singing the phone book is bound to get them a high score.

Will it? – Well it might. It’s going to have to overcome a lot of better songs to do it. It’s base value, such *is* that diaspora devotion. If you aren’t Greek or of Greek decent what are you going to see? You’ll see a woman singing a slow song about death – exactly what you need on a Tuesday or Thursday or Saturday.

Phil’s Score.  4 Points
