Hallucination by Sissal
If there’s one thing Denmark can do at Eurovision, it’s pull off a surprise win. In 2000 the Olsen Brother’s entry seemed to soar out of nowhere once it got into the Globen arena. In 2013 Emelie de Forest seemed to cut through in a field without an obvious winner – much like 2025. Could this be another year an unexpected winner takes the crown? Maybe. Though I’m willing to bet it won’t be Denmark. There’s not an original idea in this whole song.
That’s not to say I’m not low-key enjoying it, mind. Sissal cites influences such as Robyn for her beloved Nordic europop style and such references are clear to see, though there’s nothing here to really stand out. It’s a competent, yet unremarkable example of the genre.
I don’t want to be that person making suggestions about what a woman should, or shouldn’t, wear on stage but I would like to see this get a transformative make-over in both style and presentation. It’s not just Sissal’s choice of outfit, it’s the entire choreography that just doesn’t work, and there are too many times she’s lost on the vast stage for a performance with relatively static movements. A song like this needs more staging, but not the kind it had in the national final.
Even as it is there’s something comfortingly pleasing about the song itself so better visuals could enhance its chances considerably. Maybe its very lack of originality adds to the cosy familiarity. In a semi-final like this, which I feel is hugely imbalanced with more of 2025’s weaker songs I’d have this through over well over half of its competition, but I feel its best chance is how poor so many other entries are rather than solely its own merit.
My marks: 7 points
