Baller by Abor and Tynna
I’ll start with the positive: Germany has made the best choice it could for Eurovision 2025. Unfortunately, this is rather relative as my national finals’ notes had none of the options down as the winner. In further misfortune this comes at a time when you feel Germany needs a Eurovision break.
OK, that’s maybe harsh – Isaak delivered a solid 12th place last year, but this is on the back of 4 last and 3 penultimate placings plus a cancellation in the past decade. It’s even worse than us in the UK, and blimey, have we had it tough!
This is a slightly frenetic slice of electronica and dance that doesn’t really seem to know what it wants to be. There’s plenty of attitude by Tynna, who sings in extreme close-up to the camera at times whilst her brother Abor draws on their family’s classical roots by jabbing at a cello. Tynna grabs this and smashes it at the end, which seems a tad uncharitable given the poor boy’s barely got a look in so far. Her sass veers a smidge too close to aggression at times for me.
I just can’t really see many redeeming features in this. It’s hard to imagine there’ll be many people sat at home thinking “Oh, this is the one! What’s the number for Germany, Janice?”. It’s yet another German miss for me. Still, it might keep the UK off the bottom for another year…
My marks: 1 point
