ICELAND – Roa – Vaeb
The first time that I saw this I am reminded of this UK advert:
Seemingly can’t sing, Look hideous and yet, and yet the brothers Vaeb as I am now christening them, are the Icelandic version of a golden retriever. They have Sam Ryder energy levels, but Pia Maria levels of talent.
The video, though, is very good ( Not the NF one, but the actual music video) where they go into a bar and get questioned about last year’s Songvakeppnin song and asked what they have been doing for a year which is actual genius. You’ll notice I haven’t got to the song yet so lets get into that without any further a do.
It’s a bit rubbish live, in fact it’s very rubbish live . The boys can’t sing in tune, the choreo, such as it is, is very wooden and as for how they look…. Well it’s definitely *a* look that they seem to have cultivated over their young lives. They clearly have got a constituency and I shouldn’t be in it – in fact I should be hammering this song to kingdom come even more than I have done for being absolute rubbish but, and this is the key here, there is something about them and this song that makes me hear it again, and again, and again. I think we can describe this as an earworm because it’s been on loop in my head and in my house for weeks – thankfully not in the hospital ward cos I actually want to come out alive.
It’s pure televoter and clipshow bait and I’m here for it!
Phil’s score – 10 Points
It’s bouncy, it’s catchy and it’s going to get to final.
Accusation of plagiarism from the song in the link, are still floating around. Does it sound the same, very much. Is it plagiarism, I am not a music professional to say. I just find it remarkable that of all songs in the world they might be influenced by an Israeli song, called “The wedding of the Year”(Hatunat Hashana- a very popular song at weddings)
