Netherlands – Claude – C’est la Vie.
No – not this one
Nor this one either:
But Claude, a fine name for a singer in my humble opinion, will be singing for his supper in Basel in *checks watch* a couple of weeks time…..
The first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it because it has a charm and a class all of its own. From the vocal that moves seamlessly from French to English, to the chorus, which just appears out of the bridge and doesn’t hit you between the face, but rather is just there very unassuming, this song just oozes that certain “je ne sais quoi”… as they might say in the French bits of the world.
My fear is that this song runs out of ideas around the middle eight, which is not a good thing considering there is still another minute to go, and all the songwriters have done is to repeat the chorus … which is a well worn trick when they have run out of things to say in a song. Also those things that he actually has to say are very specific TO HIM (his mother passing away), and I don’t know if it’s earnest enough for people to get that and then pick up the phone and vote for it.
It’s still a very good song though.
