Sweden is one of the most successful countries in Eurovision history, debuting in 1958 and securing seven victories to date, second only to Ireland. Its first win came in 1974 with ABBA’s Waterloo, a performance that launched the group to global stardom. Subsequent victories include Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley by Herreys (1984), Fångad av en stormvind by Carola (1991), Take Me to Your Heaven by Charlotte Nilsson (1999), and Euphoria by Loreen (2012), which became a Eurovision classic. Loreen made history again in 2023 by winning with Tattoo, making her the first woman to win twice.
Sweden’s success is largely attributed to Melodifestivalen, its national selection, which is renowned for its high production values and ability to launch careers. Known for slick pop, powerful ballads, and cutting-edge staging, Sweden has set the standard for Eurovision entries.
With a blend of Swedish-language songs and English pop anthems, Sweden consistently qualifies for the finals, maintaining a reputation for professional, crowd-pleasing performances that often dominate the leaderboard.
Lena Philipsson, “It’s Hurt” , Istanbul 2004. That was the last Swedish song I liked/loved. That was 21 years ago. I never liked any of the Swedish songs afterwards. And don’t even start talking about the 3 Swedish winners, which I don’t think were even good songs(yes, this is including “Euphoria”, a rubbish of a song). All the Swedish entries for the last 21 years had 1 thing in common. They were more plastic than real songs. They had no soul in them.
And than comes a long this and I can say for the 1st time on 21 years that I love this song. It’s catchy and stick in your head , once you have heard it, you will never forget it. It has charm and character, it’s give you a warm feeling. It’s a fun song without being cheap. It put a smile on your face. Musically it’s not the most sophisticated composition, but sometimes,a simple song is all you need.
Won’t be a surprise of this will win the whole, although I am not sure anyone wants to have another Swedish Eurovision, so soon after their last hosting.
I think it will be a monster televoters magnet, but I am not sure how the jurries will react to it. Will they embrace it like they always embrace a Swedish song, or will it be too light for them.
My points: 10 points
