Phil’s Eurovision Countdown 2025 – Part 36/37 – Ukraine

Ziferbkat

Ukraine – Ziferblat – Bird of Pray

Despite having one of their number on our little radio show during NF season, that isn’t going to cloud my judgement of this song – though what *is* going to cloud it is the ridiculous on-stage concept (that I had explained to me, but still don’t fully understand).

The national final performance looks like it’s straight out of the 1970s, and has very little to do with the song, which is clearly the script to Kes set to music.  Musically, though, it’s very complex as it goes from 4/4 time to a compound signature (6/8) – maybe in the nominal chorus – and it’s a shame that is the only positive thing I can think of saying about this song.

I just find it unintelligible from a country that could literally sing about the war and get douze points from everyone. Chapeau for moving away from that, but I fear you have gone in the wrong direction.

Phil’s score – 4 points.

It’s an annoying song
In the process of writing someone decided to ditch the harmonies and left us with a song that musically and lyrically just doesn’t flow very well.

It is Ukraine so it is going to qualify, although I am not sure it deserve to.

My points: 2 points
