Austria – living down to expectations

Eric Papilaya

Nick: There’s a lot going on here, and most of it really shouldn’t be. Hard rock guitars and hardcore glitter – the Schlagerboys’ brains must be exploding right about now. All I can say is that I expected to loathe it and do in a zillion different ways.

Phil: ORF really should have gone and not come back if this is the type of message they want to share at Eurovision. Twelve months ago, they stated: “Europe doesn’t like Austrian music, so we will have to go and rethink.” And what have they come up with? A song that is no more representative of Austria than the one performed by Alf Poier  in 2005. They’ve also dragged in the ‘Life Ball‘ and whilst that campaign is laudable, I don’t believe that Eurovision is the stage on which to promote it. Eric Papilaya is vocally good, but it’s the concept that leaves me cold – I just think it is repetitive nonsense!
