There are many people that have tried one more than one occasion to win European music’s biggest prize. Some do it knowingly, whilst others get drafted in late on, probably because they’ve done it before.
Today’s birthday boy Jacques Raymond (né Jozef Remon) got the gig on his own in 1963. You know 1963, the contest in a TV centre with no visible microphones and an audience in a separate studio. Anyway, he came 10th, getting four points from Austria. Fast forward to 1971, and the duo scheduled to sing had to pull out. So BRT had a word with Jacques and paired him up with Lily Castel instead. Needless to say they didn’t win, but only scored three points from Austria. Here’s that duet performance.
Jacques is 82 today.
Gefeliciteerd/Bonne anniversaire, Jacques!
