Belgium has confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, with the French-speaking broadcaster RTBF taking the lead in organizing the country’s entry. This continues Belgium’s tradition of alternating responsibility between its two national broadcasters: RTBF and the Flemish broadcaster VRT.

A significant development for 2026 is the leadership transition within RTBF’s Eurovision delegation. Leslie Cable, who has served as RTBF’s Head of Delegation since 2005, will step down after the 2026 contest.

Michaël De Lil has been appointed as her successor and will work alongside Cable during the 2026 cycle to ensure a smooth handover.

Selection Method for 2026

While RTBF has not yet announced the specific selection method for Belgium’s 2026 entry, the broadcaster has historically alternated between internal selections and national finals. For instance, in 2024, RTBF internally selected Mustii with the song “Before the Party’s Over.” Further details regarding the 2026 selection process are expected to be released in the coming months.

Belgium’s Eurovision History

Belgium has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since its inception in 1956 and has won once, in 1986, with Sandra Kim’s “J’aime la vie.” The country is known for its alternating broadcaster system and has achieved varying degrees of success over the years. Things didn’t go great in 2026, with Red Sebastian crashing out in the semifinals.

As preparations for Eurovision 2026 continue, fans and artists alike await further announcements from RTBF regarding the selection process and Belgium’s representative for the upcoming contest.
