Bulgaria – do you have something stronger?

Elites and stoyan
Elitsa Todorova & Stoyan Yankulov -- Water during rehearsal for their performance on Eurovision 2007

OK, just to reiterate that I’m hearing 41 of these entries for the first time this week. Bulgaria is the first of them, and they’ve sent “Water”. With 84 rehearsal sessions to come in the next six days, something stronger would have been handy – but never mind.

The Bulgarian song doesn’t do it for me – it has most of the things I don’t like in an ESC song, like ethnic yowling, high notes, little semblance of a tune and a techno’ed up back beat that doesn’t seem to fit. Oh, and drums down the lift shaft. All the same, it’s the sort of thing that absolutely fits in a mid 00s contest, like a cross between Luminita Anghel, Justyna Stechkowska and just a hint of Neiokoso. It will float boats, I suspect… but it doesn’t really float mine.

Oh, spidercam‘s back by the way!
