5 July – Meow, cat, please, meow back

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s often the case that a certain song gets a massive head of steam behind it, and becomes the stand-out performance of a contest, even though it doesn’t win. We can all name songs falling into that category.

In 2024, we found ourselves in sunny Malmö. The contest made the headlines for a number of reasons, and one of those was about today’s birthday boy Baby Lasagna (né Marko Purišić). He only got to participate on Croatia’s Dora as a first reserve. He then won it by a country mile or two, so HRT must have been getting a bit worried. And worried they were, when on 11 May it came down to the last two sets of teleovtes. In the end, Baby was 44 points adrift of a win, but he still got a massive homecoming party when he returned to Zagreb a day later. Was his the stand-out song of 2024? And did the right song win?

Baby Lasagna is 30 today.

Sretan rođendan, Baby Lasagna!
