My first words to myself were ” it’s not supposed to sound like that is it?” – then I had to check with other people watching the rehearsal that I wasn’t being unduly unkind.
I wasn’t. The vocal, to me, on first run through, can be described as shaky and wafer thin for at least the first 30 seconds of the song- so much so that I actually had to play the youtube video straight after the rehearsal, again, just to make sure I was not being “me” in writing this. It does pick up when the backing track kicks in, though.
On stage too looks a little like an afterthought. Andromache is standing in the “shell” of the sun looking like Venus (whom this was not inspired after oh dear me no) and it’s all blue and yellow with some ethereal dancing from the other people they have crammed into it and the camera focuses on the waterfall for the “long shots”, but its that vocal I am most concerned about. I’m hoping amongst hope that the second run through is better, and she had just had a problem.
The stage is reset, and she has another go and this sounds a lot better, but there are a couple of jarring notes that are not quite hit inside that establishing 30 seconds. As the song progresses, she gets more confident, but she falls off some of the important bits and that is going to be a problem if, on her one attempt on Thursday, she does that again. I know there is a long time between now and then, but there needs work. This is what rehearsals are for… rehearsing, but I’m a little concerned.
Not feeling #Cyprus‘ performance here, the seashell she’s rooted to feels rather limiting, she doesn’t move from her spot the entire song. My attention is drifting. #Eurovision #ESC2022

Just watched TK1 of Cyprus! Impressed! The use of the water feature in the shots (with blue lighting to enhance it) is genius. Only thing…when they pan out you see a VERY LARGE black stage! Enjoyed it 😋 #EUROVISION #Cyprus #Eurovision2022 #andromache

Tech update on #Cyprus. It sounds like the sound crew have just been testing the onstage monitors for some time, and her voice has been moderately stronger on the last run through since. It’s still not 100% geling, mind. #Eurovision
