If there’s one country that you can rely on, it’s our friends in Denmark. Yes, they took a few years out in the 1960s and 1970s. But they’re a firm fixture, and even win from time to time.
Being present throws up a lot of jollity and this happened in spades in the 1980s. When we weren’t dazzled by Kirsten & Søren, today’s birthday girl Anne-Cathrine Herdorf and her chums Bandjo. It was good old safe Danish shuffly-pop that makes everyone smile. It made them smile so much that the juries placed it equal fifth in the biggest ever contest at the time. These days, it would have been fifth outright. But who did Ann-Cathrine and co tie with? The Netherlands. You know them, the country that may have recently won after a 44 year gap.
Anne-Cathrine is 52 today.
