France – That can only mean The Big 5

I love this song. I love everything about it – possibly because I have spent a few years holidaying in Brittany and loved the countryside and the culture.

It also may, or may not, have something to do with Alvan being a handsome human being! The CuePilot shot counter for this song goes over 100, which tells you all you need to know. It’s backlit in green (for the forest of course) and has lots of fast-cut shots with Alvan and Ahez (and the singers) contrasted in black.

Dizzy

The downside of all the cut camera shots is that they do not linger on the band for longer than 2-3 seconds, and it feels like you are suffering from motion sickness 90 seconds in. I know it’s supposed to evoke movement in the forest – to go with the lyric of the song – but, for me, it looks altogether too busy when you couple all the cut shots with the movements, and you get dizzy trying to follow all the things on stage.

Vocally Ahez was fine, but Alvan seems to be getting a little bit over-excited and needs to dial it back a notch, in my opinion. This is a great song and in the French final it was staged beautifully. I just think they have tried to do too much for the big show, and that could mean not getting the result a song of this quality deserves.

DIAL IT BACK A TOUCH!
