Norway, Georgia and the milkmaids!

The Shin and Mariko

Norway

Must remember keep eyes open, keep eyes open, engage with the camera a little. My my this is a strong opening three isn’t it? Remember the first time you heard this song. I’m imagining people all over Europe thinking to themselves “my my this is really good isn’t it.” Carl emotes very well and I wouldn’t be surprised if he manages to squeeze out a tear on the night. I like the piano shots and the darkness of the staging to match the darkness of the storm. This is a SERIOUS contender.

Georgia

And now things take a turn for the worse. Prog folk rock (I had to ask) is not a genre I’m particularly drawn to so I’ll try to be objective. Oh forget that, I can’t be. This is a right old dog’s dinner. The lead singer’s frock is a shade of green that should never be seen. The parachutes are absolutely ridiculous and the whole thing is an assault to my senses. Of course it’s original, we’ve had nothing like this at the contest and I see a smattering of jury marks for that but I fail to see how this could possibly qualify after the quality three that have preceded it.

Poland

Donatan, Donatan, where art though Donatan? Apparently he didn’t want to appear on stage though he’s credited in the programme and all that bumph. She’s probably better off with her girls to be honest. I liked this before coming to Copenhagen but now I just LOVE it. This is a perfect lesson in capturing the essence of fun in the video and translating to the Eurovision stage. Everything from the costumes to the choreography to the sultry looks to camera by the milkmaids stage left and stage right. This is what the average viewer expects from Eurovision and would be a commentator’s dream come the Saturday. I want this in the final.
