Germany is set to undergo a significant shift in its Eurovision Song Contest participation for 2026. After nearly three decades, the responsibility for organising Germany’s entry will transition from Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) to Südwestrundfunk (SWR).

This change is part of ARD’s broader strategy to specialise programming across its regional broadcasters. SWR has previously been involved in Eurovision, with its predecessor Südwestfunk organizing Germany’s entries in 1962 and 1978.

While specific details about Germany’s selection process for 2026 have not been disclosed, the transition to SWR indicates a potential shift in approach. NDR’s final year in 2025 featured the national selection show “Chefsache ESC,” developed in collaboration with RTL and TV producer Stefan Raab.

The outcome of this selection process and Germany’s performance in Eurovision 2025 may influence SWR’s strategy for 2026.

As preparations for Eurovision 2026 continue, further announcements regarding Germany’s selection process and participation details are anticipated.
