Germany picks 2022 Eurovision song

Malik Harris

Tonight ARD brought us ‘Germany 12 Points’. The show featured six potential Eurovision songs, and viewers (plus radio listeners) got to decide who wins a guaranteed spot in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest final.

JamalaFor many, the highlight of the evening was a performance of ‘1944’ by Ukrainian Eurovision champion, Jamala. After a run of limp performances with lyrics fluffed and variable vocals, she commanded the screen.

Maël & Jonas triumphed with radio listeners, but when the televotes rolled in, they were pipped to the post by Malik Harris, who will perform ‘Rockstars’ in Turin.

The German-American pop singer, rapper and songwriter grew up near Landsberg am Lech. Malik’s has opened for international acts like James Blunt, Alex Clare, Jeremy Loops, Tom Odell and LP. His debut album, Anonymous Colonist, came out in August 2021.
