Following the success of its 2025 national final, Greece’s public broadcaster ERT is considering a revamped selection process for Eurovision 2026, potentially introducing semi-finals to enhance public participation and transparency.
The 2025 Ethnikós Telikós marked Greece’s return to a televised national final after several years, culminating in Klavdia’s “Asteromáta” securing sixth place in Basel. Buoyed by strong viewership and positive reception, ERT is exploring a multi-stage format akin to Sweden’s Melodifestivalen, aiming to sustain audience engagement over several weeks.
This proposed expansion is not solely artistic; it’s also financially motivated. Reports indicate that the combined advertising revenue from the 2025 semi-finals and final reached €465,000, surpassing the €403,000 expenditure for Greece’s participation, resulting in a €62,000 surplus.
By adopting a more extensive selection process, ERT seeks to capitalise on this momentum, offering a platform for diverse musical talents and fostering greater public involvement in choosing Greece’s Eurovision representative.
