Back in the 1980s our favourite TV show was bumping along nicely. Lots of entries every year Lots of interesting languages. And lots of interesting results.
Take Iceland for example. They débuted in 1986 and finished 16th. Oddly enough, in 1987 and 1988 they also finished 16th. Things went slightly awry in 1989, but we don’t need to worry about that today. One of the members of this exclusive 16th-place club was today’s birthday girl Halla Margrét Árnadóttir. She dropped the last element of her name for the contest. This 16th place was sung in the beautiful language of Icelandic and had the curious letter ‘æ’ in its title. I think this pærticular letter needs using more, just for fun ænd gæmes. Halla Margrét’s points came from five juries, and included a 10! Just goes to show that every song ever performed in the contest will have fæns. For the record, we like this song too.
Halla Margrét is 56 today.
Til hamingju með afmælið, Halla Margrét!
