Svala keeps it in the family for Eurovision

Svala

When Svala performs ‘Paper’ at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, one person cheering her on will know exactly what she’s going through.

Her father – Bo Halldórs – represented Iceland in 1995.

‘Paper’ was an early favourite among Eurovision fans when first unveiled in January. It was a clear winner tonight at the Icelandic national final, the Söngvakeppnin.

All told, there were just two songs in serious contention, with the only credible threat coming from Daði Freyr Pétursson with ‘Is this love?’.

After jury votes and televotes were added up, the top-two performed again to let viewers at home vote again. Svala held a significant lead with 70,017 votes, while Daði Freyr Pétursson trailed with 47,414.

The final vote confirmed things, and this Sia-lite number will be performed in the first semi final on May 9.

Here she is live, see the official video in the sidebar of shame.
