Looking Ahead: Six weeks to decide Lithuanian Eurovision future

Lithuania
No lions on his shirt

LRT has never been a broadcaster to skimp on Eurovision. They apply the quantity over quality approach year-in, year-out. Sometimes they tease the bookies, often they’re rank outsiders. But it never really seems to end well.

One thing they can never be accused of is sticking with a formula to see if it beds in. 2020 sees yet more changes.

When seven becomes six

On the positive, we’re to get just SIX weeks of songs – down from last year’s seven-week slog. The Deputy Director General of LRT, Gytis Oganauskas said: “We are shortening the selection for the sake of quality, with more carefully selected, and more professionally presented works.”

Among the other changes, each act will get to sing just one song. There will be a jury, but they’ll be locked in another studio and won’t provide ‘helpful’ comments after each song. Viewers also won’t be shown the televoting numbers during the songs.

If you’re interested, submissions open on 30 September and run until 8 December.
