The returning performer – oh how we love them. Except for Alexander Rybak. You must have your favourite returnign performer. Or maybe there’s a performer you’d like to see come back. Like Rodolfo Chikilicuatre for example.
Today’s birthday girl Ira Losco came back, and suffered the fate most (but not all) returners encounter. That is they do less well than their first appearance. In the 14 years between Ira’s attempts, the contest changed a lot. In 2002 she managed second in a smallish field and was already in the final. In 2014 she had to bare-knuckle fight 17 other songs just to make the Grand Final. She managed third in her semi-final and then 12th in the Saturday night show. You could say that performing after the eventual winner didn’t do her chances much good. But she beat the UK again (and who doesn’t), and Latvia, overturning her disappointment in Tallinn. Here’s her runner-up performance.
