8 May – I went to find the freaks

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We have a duo for you today. A duo from the 1970s. Until that decade, we’d mainly seen soloists, but duos and the occasional trio did feature. That made a duo sort of a middle ground. A bit of variety of two performers and perhaps something for everyone.

Today’s birthday girl Helen Micallef was paired with her pal Joseph Cutajar. They chose to perform in Maltese even though they had the choice of English. And they decided to match their outfits too. Very nice. Now if you know the scoring system in 1972, every country was guaranteed a minimum score of 34. As Helen and Joseph scored 48, that meant they really scored 14. And four of those came from one country. It would be 28 years before we heard any Maltese in our favourite TV show.

Helen is 75 today.

It-Tajjeb/Happy birthday, Helen!
