The phrase Mr Eurovision is bandied around quite easily sometime. Some countries have one contender. Others have several. It’s a great discussion point the next time you’re with like-minded fans.
Over in Norway, there are a number of possible Mr Eurovisions. Well, maybe two. One we sadly lost in 2020. The other is today’s birthday boy Rolf Undsæt Løvland. He wrote his country’s first winner, winning the best contest of them all. He also co-wrote his country’s second winner. Music was his thing in 1995, and as part of Secret Garden, his song consisted almost entirely of music. And 25 words. Rolf and his pal Fionnuala (and Åse, and Hans Fredrik, and Gunnhild) didn’t care – they got six maxima.
Rolf is 70 today.
