19 January – In the middle of the night, in the light of the day

Control yourselves out there, it’s Sweden! You know the country – soulless furniture, yummy cinnamon-based pastries, oh, and a few successes in our favourite TV show.

Admittedly, those Swedes are everywhere at the moment. They write the songs that make the whole of Europe sing. And sing them themselves too. They have a big hand in producing and directing contests too. Just ask that Viking of a stage manager. Anyways, today’s birthday girl Maria Magdalena “Lena” Philipsson came at the end of a run of seven consecutive top 10 finishes. There was a blip for a couple of years before the Swedes became dominant again. Is win number seven imminent? Lena, for her sins, was in Melodifestivalens from 1986 until this performance in 2004. But she’s always one to watch.

Lena is 53 today.

Grattis på födelsedagen, Lena!

This is the last Swedish entry that I liked.
Still think it’s a fabulous song.
