Do you look at those big anniversaries to see what happened 10, 20, 30 years ago (and so on). For a contest that’s been going for nearly 70 years, you have plenty of material.
A mere fifty years ago, we were at a Swedish contest for the first time. Again, we have plenty of Swedish contests since then. Today’s birthday girl Simone Drexel comes from this years’ host country, possible completing some sort of tenuous circle. Simone came sixth, which was a middling result from everyone’s favourite Alpine Confederation. And she only scored one maximum in what was the first year for that particular voting system. Maybe if she’d somehow tried to shoe-horn some Japanese into the song, it might have scored more.
Simone is 68 today.
