Do you know how it feels to be a bit early for something? It could be getting there early for that hot date. Or waiting for your favourite shop to open ready for its sale.
Or it could be early for a win in our favourite TV show. For every winner, there’s usually been an entrant from the same country the year before who hasn’t won. Maybe they did the groundwork. Like Linda Lepomme for example. OK, maybe not the best pick. Or Gina G perhaps. Or Waylon. Back in 2012, today’s birthday girl Soluna Samay paved the way for Emmelie de Forest’s win in 2013. Soluna – fact fans – was born in Guatemala to German and Swiss parents, and lived in Denmark since she was 10. Her passport is Swiss. Soluna and her chums were an eclectic bunch, I guess hoping there would be something for everyone. She got a smattering of points in her semi-final (10 from Switzerland), and a lesser smattering in the Grand Final (0 from Switzerland). But Emmelie must be forever grateful to her.
Soluna is 29 today.
