Israel leapfrogs to become bookies’ Eurovision favourite

Netta

Within minutes of Netta releasing the official video for ‘Toy’, bookmakers adjusted their odds and made Israel their tip to win the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.

It’s unlike anything else in the competition, combining a mean chicken impersonation with a hefty #MeToo dose of knowing political awareness, all from a singer who oozes charisma, channelling Beth Ditto.

Netta relies on a machine – called a looper – that records her live vocals and allows her to play them back as multi-tracked and enhanced sounds. So far, the ‘live vocals only, nothing recorded’ EBU seem fine with it.

The singer won talent show ‘The next star for Eurovision’, her song was chosen in recent days. Toy” was written by Doron Medalie and Stav Beger.

Writing about the song does it little justice, listen and make up your own mind.
